Documentary Nights: Fun or Forced?

The UVic EWB chapter has unsuccessfully hosted two documentary nights over the past two school semesters. At these events, we show a documentary relevant to an EWB topic, give away donated fair trade chocolate, and have a question-and-answer period following the movie. We believe events like documentary nights are important as they promote the UVic chapter and encourage thoughts and discussions on world issues. They are also low cost, fun, informative and enjoyable for students across all faculties.

This past October, the UBCO Chapter hosted our very first Wine and Cheese Gala for International Development to help contribute to EWB’s It Takes a Village fundraising campaign. In this novel moment, we failed to establish fair speaking procedures for campaigning political candidates.

What do I need to know? Assessing my own knowledge to preserve information

As a university group, our chapter has high member turnover. While new faces bring fresh ideas, we risk losing valuable information when old members leave. This year, as an incoming executive member, I failed to assess my knowledge proactively; in doing so, I contributed to my chapter’s knowledge leak.
